How many solar panels for a 15kwh lithium battery?

To recharge a 15kWh lithium battery or any lithium battery, you need to know the usable capacity of the battery and your peak sun hours.
The usable capacity of a battery depends on the depth of discharge (DoD) of the battery. The usable capacity of a 15kwh lithium battery at 80% DoD which is the same as 0.8 is;
15kwh X 0.8 = 12kWh
@ 90% = 15kwh X 0. 9 = 13.5Kwh
@ 100% = 15kwh X 1 = 15kWh
For this calculation, we will use 100% DoD to calculate the number of solar panels.
Step 1: Divide the total usable capacity by the performance ratio of the panels to take care of losses and other factors that will affect the solar panels during generation.
Note: Performance ratio is different from the cell efficiency of a solar panel.
We will use 65% (0.65).
15kWh is same as 15,000Wh
Therefore;
15,000Wh ÷ 0.65 = 23,077Wh
Step 2: Divide by the peak sun hours. We will use 4 peak sun hours
23,077Wh ÷ 4h = 5,769W
Step 3: Divide by the power rating of the solar panel you want to use. We are using 600W solar panel
5,769W ÷ 600W = 9. 615units; approximately 10 units of 600W solar panels
Conclusion: We need 10 units of 600W solar panels to recharge a 15kWh lithium battery in 4hours.
Note: Always make sure you don’t exceed the C-rate of the battery.
